KUALA LUMPUR: GTI Specialist Publishers held its inaugural Malaysia's 100 Leading Graduate Employers and doctorjob's Students' Choice Awards at the Carcosa Seri Negara, Kuala Lumpur, on Thursday, 6 November 2008. The exclusive event was attended by CEOs and senior executives from various corporate giants, plus the heads of top educational institutions in Malaysia.

As part of its initiative to support graduate career development, GTI conducted the Malaysia's 100 Leading Graduate Employers survey early in 2008. This survey was similar to that conducted by the GTI group in the UK and Ireland. The aim of the survey was to identify the top 100 employers for which undergraduates would most want to work upon finishing university.

Recognition was given to the most popular graduate employers in four sectors:
  • Banking and investment
  • Engineering
  • Finance and professional services
  • ICT
Winners of the sector awards are HSBC Bank for the banking and investment award, Shell Malaysia for the Engineering award, PricewaterhouseCoopers for the Finance and professional services award and INTEL for the ICT award.

The final award for the evening, Malaysia's most popular graduate employer of the year was presented to Shell Malaysia.

On the same evening, GTI also presented the doctorjob's Students' Choice Awards to the most popular universities and colleges in Malaysia, as voted by secondary school students earlier this year. The doctorjob's Students' Choice Awards recognised the strength of college and university brands in schools, plus excellence in student recruitment.

The most popular educational institution award was presented to Taylor's University College.

The Chairman of GTI Specialist Publishers (Malaysia), Hee Kim Fah, was keen to stress the significance of the awards: 'We feel it is important to find out more about how students and graduates perceive their educational and career options, so that valuable feedback can be given to recruiters regarding their branding and marketing campaigns. This has resulted in the doctorjob's Students' Choice and Malaysia's 100 Leading Graduate Employers Awards which have recognised leaders in the local education and graduate recruitment markets.'

Nickie Yew, Regional Director and General Manager for GTI Specialist Publishers (Malaysia), added: 'Students have many resources for information at their disposal compared to students a decade ago. From print media to digital advertising, marketing to students - particularly in the area of education - has become more challenging. In this respect, GTI is pleased to reaffirm that we produce market-leading sector-specific publications, events and web, and provides multimedia solutions for all your needs.

Adrian Wood, International Managing Director and Joint Founder of GTI, expressed great pride in the growth of Group GTI throughout Europe and Asia to become the largest graduate careers media company in the world, with offices in Malaysia, Singapore, China, the UK, Germany, France, Switzerland and Ireland. GTI launched its first Awards event five years ago in the UK and Adrian said: 'It gives me enormous pleasure to celebrate excellence in graduate recruitment here in Malaysia too and to recognize the hard work that organizations put into attracting the most talented students.'

This prestigious event has received huge support from top educational institutions and companies in Malaysia, including the Asia Pacific University College of Innovation & Technology, CPA Australia, EP-Net Technology, EP-TEC Solutions, Great Eastern Life Assurance (M) Berhad, HSBC Bank Malaysia Berhad, The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), Kuala Lumpur Infrastructure University College (KLIUC), Maybank Berhad, Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC), PricewaterhouseCoopers, and Shell Malaysia.
